We made it! One full year of breastfeeding twins! It’s been difficult at times, and also wonderful. It’s been amazing to watch them grow, knowing that I’ve fed them with my own body. This is the longest I’ve been able to breastfeed any of my children. I’m proud to share this accomplishment with all of you!
Our breastfeeding relationship started right after the twins’ births. During our brief hospital stay (only 24 hours) they didn’t receive any bottles and I nursed on demand. It was a great start!
Once we came home I parked myself under my Brest Friend nursing pillow and I fed the twins constantly. Our first few months were a blur of feedings.
As time passed I became more and more skilled and I was able to breastfeed my babies anytime, anywhere.
Even as we began to introduce solids near the 6 month mark, the babies still nursed frequently.
It was easier to travel during the holidays with our babies because we didn’t have to worry about packing formula or bottles. Wherever I went – the babies always had the perfect food.
I cherished moments when we could nurse together in a big pile of snuggles.
They’re getting older and they like to squirm into different positions. I don’t feed them together as often. They tend to poke each other and wrestle a little too much for one lap to hold.
Now that they’re a year old, they often crawl up to me with a twinkle in their eye, smacking their little lips and laughing. It’s a joy to scoop them up and hold them close. They nurse less often now as they’re approaching a natural weaning. I’m thankful God has equipped and enabled me to feed my babies for their first year.
